ジョージ、かわいそう＞＜

One Sunday morning George burst into the living room and
said, "Dad! Mom! I have some great news for you! I am getting married to the most beautiful girl in town. She lives a block away and her name is Susan. After dinner, George's dad took him aside, "Son, I have to talk with you." "Look at your mother, George. She and I have been married 30 years, she's a wonderful wife and mother, but, she has never offered much excitement in the bedroom, so I used to fool around with women a lot. Susan is actually your half sister, and I'm afraid you can't marry her."

ある日曜の朝、ジョージは居間に駆け込んで言った。「父さん！母さん！すごいニュースがあるよ。街で一番綺麗な女の子と結婚するんだ。彼女はひとつ向こうの通りに住んでいて、名前はスーザン。」

夕食のあとジョージの父はジョージをそばに置いてこう言った。「息子よ、言わなくちゃいけないことがある。お前の母さんを見なさい、ジョージ。彼女とは30年も結婚しているし、素晴らしい妻であり母だ。だけど寝室では何も面白いことがなかったんだ。だから女の人と良く遊んだりしていたものだ。スーザンは実はお目の半分血の繋がった妹なんだよ。残念だけどおまえは彼女とは結婚はできない」

George was broken-hearted. After eight months he eventually started dating girls again. A year later he came home and very proudly announced, "Dianne said yes! We're getting married in June." Again his father insisted on another private conversation and broke the sad news. "Dianne is your half sister too, George. I'm awfully sorry about this." George was livid!

ジョージは失恋した。8ヵ月後とうとう彼は女の子とデートし始めた。一年経って彼は家に来て誇り高く宣言した。「ダイアンがイエスと言った！僕たちは6月に結婚するんだ」

再び父はまたナイショの話をしたいと言い張り、悲しいニュースを持ち出した。「ダイアンもまた半分血の繋がった妹だよ。ジョージ、こんなことになって本当に悪かったと思ってる」
ジョージは激怒した。

He finally decided to go to his mother with the news his father had shared. "Dad has done so much harm. I guess I'm never going to get married," he complained. "Every time I fall in love, dad tells me the girl is my half sister." "Hehehe," his mother chuckled, shaking her head, "don't pay any attention to what he says. He's not really your father."

彼はついに父がもたらしたニュースを母に告げる決心をした。「父さんは本当にひどいことをしたんだ。ぼくはもう決して結婚できない気がするよ」と文句を言った。

「恋するたびに父さんはその娘は半分血が繋がった妹だって言うんだ」
「ははは」彼の母はけらけら笑って頭を振った。「お父さんの言うことなんか気にしちゃだめよ。あんたの本当の父親なんかじゃないんだから」
